2026 SAP Industry Report: SAP Cloud ERP is Becoming the New Standard for Global Enterprises

Author:Acloudear , 2026-07-20 15:37
The latest 2026 SAP Industry Report reveals that approximately 70% of enterprises have migrated or are migrating to S/4HANA Cloud. Driven by the upcoming ECC 2027 deadline and cloud-exclusive AI capabilities like Joule, transitioning to SAP Cloud ERP has become a vital strategic step for global expansion.

In the landscape of enterprise digital transformation and ERP modernization, the recently released 2026 SAP Industry Report—co-authored by valantic and techconsult—highlights critical trends in global migration to SAP Cloud ERP. Several key data points stand out as essential indicators for IT leaders and business decision-makers.

First is the 70% milestone. Approximately 70% of surveyed enterprises are either currently migrating to SAP S/4HANA Cloud or have already completed their transition. This indicates that in the German-speaking (DACH) region, the transformation of SAP system architectures has matured into a definitive phase of “implementation and stabilization.”

Even more notable is the shift in deployment models. On-premises deployments dropped from 20% to 11%, public cloud rose from 22% to 25%, and private cloud increased from 58% to 64%. While the shifts are gradual, the overarching trend is consistent: on-premises is declining, while cloud adoption continues to grow.

It is easy to assume that cloud migration is solely about reducing IT infrastructure and maintenance costs. However, the report reveals another compelling dataset: 67% of surveyed enterprises are already using AI in production environments or are actively integrating AI into their business processes. Furthermore, 42% explicitly stated their intent to deploy AI Agents.

The critical caveat is that these advanced AI capabilities reside almost exclusively in the cloud.

SAP’s Joule copilot, AI Agents, and automated workflows are primarily engineered for cloud environments. For enterprises still running legacy SAP ECC or on-premises S/4HANA systems, it is no longer a question of “how well” they can utilize AI, but rather that they cannot access these capabilities at all.

Consequently, the primary driver for cloud migration has evolved. In previous years, organizations moved to the cloud to reduce data center footprints, ease maintenance, and offload infrastructure concerns. Today, migration is fueled by the desire to unlock new capabilities—specifically Artificial Intelligence (AI). Without cloud migration, an architectural barrier remains between an organization and next-generation ERP capabilities.

This is not to say that cloud migration is without obstacles. The report notes that 84% of enterprises experienced rollbacks during their initial cloud migration, and 57% of mid-sized companies expressed concern over high project costs. These figures reflect that migration still presents tangible challenges.

However, on the other side of the ledger: 51% of enterprises confirmed a measurable increase in cost efficiency post-launch. This suggests that once organizations overcome the initial transition hurdles, the majority realize substantial business value.

This trend is consistently reflected in local practices. Consider the case of CBAIC, a high-growth startup specializing in advanced aerospace composite materials.

As a growing tech enterprise, Westbeck faced complex operational challenges, including up to 8 levels of Bill of Materials (BOM) and nearly 10,000 types of raw materials, alongside high-frequency R&D changes. To standardize their business processes and establish compliance credentials for overseas clients, Acloudear planned and implemented an SAP Cloud ERP solution. Through close collaboration between both teams, the project went live successfully in just two and a half months, achieving unified business and financial management alongside visual tracking of thousands of inventory items.

A benchmark report from SAPinsider further validates this direction. It shows that 70% of IT leaders prioritize “improving operational efficiency and reducing costs,” while 63% feel pressure to lower IT and SAP-related expenditures this year.

Under this pressure, enterprises typically take two actions: first, they scrutinize existing IT spend to evaluate the return on investment; second, they seek highly efficient operational models that allow them to achieve more with fewer resources.

The subscription-based model of SAP Public Cloud ERP aligns well with this need. By eliminating major upfront software licensing fees and the need for dedicated infrastructure maintenance teams, quarterly updates are pushed automatically. This shifts IT costs from Capital Expenditure (CAPEX) to Operational Expenditure (OPEX), significantly easing cash flow pressures.

While these data points reflect European market sentiments, two overarching trends apply globally:

  • Trend 1: The SAP ECC mainstream maintenance deadline of late 2027. This timeline applies globally, narrowing the window for strategic planning and execution.

  • Trend 2: The digital demands of expanding enterprises. A growing number of manufacturing enterprises are establishing factories, warehouses, and distribution channels abroad. These international entities require standardized ERP systems that integrate seamlessly with their domestic headquarters. SAP Public Cloud ERP, with its out-of-the-box readiness, multi-language/multi-GAAP support, and global compliance features, has become a core standard for organizations expanding internationally.

As an SAP Platinum PartnerAcloudear has served over 300 enterprises. We observe two primary demands: domestic enterprises needing to replace legacy systems to support growth with greater flexibility, and expanding businesses requiring a compliant, reproducible digital core overseas.

Regardless of the specific scenario, the strategic direction is clear: transitioning to the cloud.

As SAP Cloud ERP becomes the de facto standard for modern enterprises, those still in the planning stages should consider accelerating their decision-making and migration processes to remain competitive.

How to evaluate the supply chain management level of enterprises
Tagore once said, “it’s easy to talk if you don’t want to speak the complete truth.” Therefore, it is a very prudent thing to evaluate others or enterprises. The development of any thing has its objective laws and characteristics of environmental factors, which ultimately forms today’s model or appearance. Therefore, the current supply chain management level of enterprises is the result of yesterday’s continuous accumulation. […]
