From October 20 to 22, 2026, the United VARs APJ Summit 2026 was held in Tokyo. More than 70 representatives from United VARs member companies across 12 countries and regions in Asia Pacific attended, together with SAP Japan and customer representatives. Acloudear took part as a core member of the alliance and shared its cross-border collaboration experience on the international stage. At the center of the discussion was the hardest part of any cross-border SAP project: how one system can satisfy compliance requirements in several countries at once — and whether AI can genuinely become part of day-to-day ERP operations.
Founded in 2006, United VARs is a global alliance of partners delivering SAP solutions to midsize and growth-stage companies, and this year marks its twentieth anniversary. The alliance now has more than 70 member companies serving over 100 countries, and is the only partner alliance holding SAP Platinum Partner status worldwide.
The United VARs APJ Summit is the alliance’s annual event for Asia Pacific and Japan. This year’s summit was built around three words — ties, co-creation and harmony: build trust first, create together next, and land finally on collaborative delivery across borders. It centered on two topics. The first: when a company operates across countries, how do local implementation partners work together, and how does a cross-border project reconcile a unified delivery standard with local requirements? The second: practical AI applications in SAP ERP, with several member companies presenting their own AI solutions.

Tankler Wang, Technology Partner at Acloudear, used a cross-border project Acloudear is currently delivering as the example, sharing the company’s hands-on experience with the audience of customers and partners.
Tankler: The customer is a medical device manufacturer headquartered in North America, with production and distribution across five regional markets. The entire business runs on a single SAP Cloud ERP Private instance, rolled out in three waves and covering five accounting currencies. The goal is a unified global template with industry compliance requirements embedded in end-to-end processes. Answerthink leads the project; Acloudear is responsible for delivery in China and Southeast Asia.
Under a unified global template, compliance is the hardest part: industry validation, electronic signatures and audit trails must be embedded in end-to-end processes, while China’s e-invoicing, customs declaration and RMB accounting, along with tax and local currencies across Southeast Asia, all have to hold up within the same system.
Tankler then broke down how the template helps the customer meet requirements in each country while staying unified, across three scenarios: quality, batch traceability, and supply chain with group finance.
Quality management
Inspection plans, sampling, results recording and usage decisions connect into a complete chain; nonconformance handling, corrective and preventive actions, and returns form controlled processes; electronic signatures and audit trails leave a record at every step. Quality records and business documents hang off the same data chain, so the customer no longer has to stitch evidence together across systems when an audit comes.
Batch traceability
Batch status, shelf life, FIFO and quarantine rules come under unified control, building a complete genealogy from supplier receipts and production batches through to finished-goods outbound and customer delivery. Shop-floor execution is supported by work orders, production confirmation and shop-floor monitoring, while barcodes and labels keep production records complete.
Supply chain and finance
Forecasting, material requirements planning and safety stock are unified onto one set of parameters, so shortages and slow-moving stock can be identified before purchase orders are issued. Fulfilment supports sales from stock, third-party drop-ship and intercompany drop-ship. On the finance side, the chart of accounts, ledgers, currencies and intercompany accounting are unified, while statutory reporting under multiple accounting standards is met at the same time.

In the second half of his session, Tankler turned to “how collaboration should begin.”
When a cross-border project goes wrong, the cause is rarely technology — it is usually that things were not said clearly at the start. He introduced the International Project Handbook: local experts should be involved at the bid stage, in requirements clarification and template review, so that local requirements make it into the quotation. The collaboration model must be defined up front — localization advisory, value-added modules, defined work packages, or full go-live. The four models differ significantly in staffing input and in where responsibility sits. During delivery, the lead partner carries end-to-end responsibility, while the local partner has a clear role and sufficient context; both sides work to SAP Activate as the common methodology.

“Twenty years ago, United VARs was created to answer ‘who do we get to do this’ for cross-border projects. Today customers ask whether one system can cover multiple countries, and whether AI can actually be put to work. The question has changed; the answer has not: every country needs a partner who genuinely understands it locally. What Acloudear does, through the United VARs alliance, is make sure these companies get consistent, high-quality digital services wherever they operate,” said Tracy Zhou, founder and CEO of Acloudear.
Looking ahead, as cross-border SAP projects multiply, Acloudear will keep bringing the service and delivery experience it has built in the China market into the alliance, working with global partners to extend “local expertise, global delivery reach” into more countries and give companies consistent service worldwide.
In one sentence: the outcome of a cross-border SAP project is usually settled at the bid stage — local experts in early, the collaboration model defined up front, the lead partner owning end-to-end responsibility, and SAP Activate as the shared methodology. That way of working — “local expertise, global delivery reach” — is being proven again and again across United VARs’ 70+ member companies and more than 100 countries.
